Conventional oil production is characterized by wells far enough away from the processing plant that oil is stored in tanks at the wellsite, then shipped by truck to processing facilities.

The Problem

The product in the tanks is typically a combination of oil and water, separated by an emulsion. Companies receive a payment deduction based on the amount of water/emulsion in their trucks, measured at the point of delivery.

The Solution

The RTUIQ interface detection system produces the most accurate reports of the volume of clean oil and water/emulsion in a tank, avoiding inaccurate volume readings and hefty payment deductions. RADAR Technology

The Radar Interface Detector (RID) is designed with a non-contact, self-cleaning Teflon antenna that intrudes into the top of the tank and generates two low power, extremely high resolution pulses into the tank every few seconds. The first pulse measures the distance from the RID to the top of the clean oil in the tank; the second pulse travels through the oil to the bottom of clean oil.
